Battle of the Beasts – My First CrossFit Competition

Okay, I suck. I should have done this recap weeks ago! The competition went really well! We were super excited that we did not come in last place. We came in 12th out of 13! The workouts were killer and the heat was practically unbearable! It was 97 degrees that day and there was no shade where the workouts were, all the shade that was available was provided by canopy tents brought in by the athletes. This competition was a true test of mental strength, physical strength, courage, and perseverance.

We had excellent support from our gym family as well. Our coach and several members showed up to cheer us on and bear the heat with us. The outpouring support was unimaginable. I feel so very lucky to belong to a gym family as supportive as IronCross Fitness. Trevin has always been very encouraging and uplifting when you need it most.

Relay run aka the most hellacious 400m run ever! Partner 1 completed the run and tagged Partner 2 to finish. Score is based on total time. I think we finished in 14 something.

I don’t remember what we finished in, but it was under the 25 minute time cap!

WOD 4 – we did not place in the top 10 so we didn’t get to do this workout, I was very sad.
100 partner over burpees
Wall-climb sprint

6 minutes to find 1 rep max overhead squat and snatch complex, clean and front squat for scaled.

In the end, this was a really good first competition and I’m so glad that I was able to compete and give it my all and never give up. It was a huge eye opener to how far I’ve really come not only physically but mentally as well. Lacey was a great partner and I’d definitely do another partner competition with her if the opportunity arose!

Remember that competition I told you about? Yeah, I’m still training for that. I’m working on my weaknesses while maintaining my strengths. It’s really tough! I’m currently doing a cleanse to slay the sugar monster that has developed again. Boo.

Monday
WOD 1
15min AMRAP:
10 handwalks
20 pushups
30 sumo high pulls, I did hang cleans @75lbs instead

I got 3 rounds + handwalks.

WOD 2
Not really a workout, but a billion* toe-to-bar. I’m really weak in toe-to-bar and doing them efficiently. So I worked on my technique on getting them down quickly.

*Obviously an exaggeration, but I don’t know how many I did.

I finished in 24:00 without shoes, I walked the mile in flip flops!

10 shoulder press (65lbs)
15 mountain climbers

I got 7 rounds + pullups.

I didn’t do a second workout, I wasn’t feeling great and decided not to push too hard.

Friday

40 jump squats
40 burpees
40 plank jacks
200m run
30 jump squats
30 burpees
30 plank jacks
400m run
20 jump squats
20 burpees
20 plank jacks
800m run

I finished in 28:04.
