Okay, I suck. I should have done this recap weeks ago! The competition went really well! We were super excited that we did not come in last place. We came in 12th out of 13! The workouts were killer and the heat was practically unbearable! It was 97 degrees that day and there was no shade where the workouts were, all the shade that was available was provided by canopy tents brought in by the athletes. This competition was a true test of mental strength, physical strength, courage, and perseverance.

Gym Family Support

Gym Family Support

We had excellent support from our gym family as well. Our coach and several members showed up to cheer us on and bear the heat with us. The outpouring support was unimaginable. I feel so very lucky to belong to a gym family as supportive as IronCross Fitness. Trevin has always been very encouraging and uplifting when you need it most.

Rest
6 minutes to find 1 rep max overhead squat and snatch complex, clean and front squat for scaled.

In the end, this was a really good first competition and I’m so glad that I was able to compete and give it my all and never give up. It was a huge eye opener to how far I’ve really come not only physically but mentally as well. Lacey was a great partner and I’d definitely do another partner competition with her if the opportunity arose!

Advocare 24 Day Challenge: Day 23

Day 23 already! Holy buckets! I swear I just started this challenge yesterday! Anyway, yesterday I ran the Color Me Rad 5k and went to the Parade of Homes again. It was a fun day, but very exhausting. I slept 11 hours last night. I think I was a little sleepy. I’m just so glad that Clyde let me sleep that long. Maybe today I’ll be able to be productive, you know clean the house, mow the grass, pooper scoop, take Clyde for walks, etc. Fun filled day!

Day 23
Breakfast:
MNS 3 Color Pack (30 mins prior)
Coffee w/cream
Chocolate Mocha Meal Replacement Shake

Snack:
Egg McMuffin (we got these after the race)

Lunch:
Chicken breast, broccoli

Snack:
Scotcharoo, Dr. Pepper

Dinner:
No dinner (I wasn’t hungry)

Activity:
Color Me Rad 5k (3.1miles)
Steps-17,694 (8.2 miles)

Thoughts:
Yesterday was a really good day. It was fun filled day with family. The Color Me Rad is always fun. I’ll do a separate post with all the fun pictures! The Parade of Homes was great again, I voted for my favorite home. I really was considering just squatting in the home because there’s no way I could afford it. HA! Clyde and I went for 2 walks last night too, that was lovely. I think he is really starting to enjoy our little outings. How was your Saturday?

Buying In Bulk

Posted on

Have you ever seen a great sale on meat and thought there is no way I can eat that much before it goes bad? But then again, it’s such a great deal! Here’s what I do. I shop the sales at Lucky’s Market here in Billings. Every Wednesday I can be found there sometime after crossfit. Why Wednesdays? Well it just so happens that is their double ad day, frequently referred to as Double Ad Wednesdays.

Double Ad Wednesdays are when Lucky’s has the previous weeks sales still going on and the upcoming weeks sales start. So you get TWICE the items on sale! It’s the greatest thing ever. I love it. Because of this I have been trying to stock my freezer full of these great deals, especially meat. Meat can get so expensive and when you eat it for 3 meals a day it definitely cannot hurt when you find a deal.

Well, let’s face it. This is not a household of 4, not even 2, well unless you count Clyde who gets his own special food, so there is no way I could eat all the bulk meat that I buy. So what do I do? I have a Ziploc Vacuum Sealer System. So far I love it. Here I bought a bunch of chicken thighs on sale ($1.98/lb)! Now I must confess that I love the dark meat of the chicken. I find it has so much more flavor than the white meat.

It is really simple to use. You simply plug into the wall, grab a bag full of goodies (chicken thighs in this case), and hit the vacuum and seal button. It is seriously that easy! Now I have my cheap chicken thighs for days to come in much more reasonable portions! I chose to put split the packs of 8 into bags of 4 for the freezer.

What are some tips and tricks that you guys use to get the most bang for your buck? I use the same system when buying meat at Costco (usually hamburger and pork chops). Let me know! I’d love to know how else to get more out of my dollar!

Puppy Play Date – Phipps Park

Posted on

Clyde had a play date on Friday! He loved it! We went to a park here in Billings, called Phipps Park. It’s north of town by the Ironwood Subdivision. It is awesome. The dogs can run their little hearts out. There is a trail to hike and a folf course as well.

Clyde went out to play with his friends Jack, Debo, and Sheena. They had a great time running round chasing each other. Plus, it’s always wonderful when Clyde gets energy burnt off to sleep through the night. I love it. It is so important for the dogs to socialize! So I try to take Clyde at least to the dog park once a week. He really enjoys that as well as long as the dogs like to run. Clyde may have 6-inch legs but he LOVES to run. So big dogs are his thing so he can chase them. It’s so cute to watch.

Here’s some pictures from our last play date.

The other benefit to Phipps is that the trails are hilly, now after doing my IronCross Fit workout for Friday, I wasn’t having the best time with the hills, but it was totally worth it. One of these days we will hike the whole trail! It’s so beautiful out there too. Perfect backdrop for a puppy photo shoot!

What do you do to get your furbabies exercise and socialization? Do you take them to a dog park? Do you schedule puppy play dates?
